Tips From The Top

  • Top shelf audio deserves top shelf visual design

When it comes to home audio, our clients value how the technology looks as much as how it sounds. And for good reason – our clients’ homes are outstanding examples of interior home design. And as smart home integrators who love AV, we make sure the way our clients’ home audio looks is as important as how it sounds.

The AV companies we work with also know that consumers of top shelf audio want top shelf design for their homes. The audio hardware delivering the best quality sound needs to belong in the design element of the clients’ home. Or it can be completely invisible, too. And that’s exactly what we’re seeing in the new products introduced at this year’s CEDIA Expo.

This year’s CEDIA Expo gave us a glimpse of the outstanding design of three of our favorite audio manufacturers: Leon, Origin Acoustics, and Harman.

Leon Speakers (see image) is all about bringing a designer approach to television and audio. They make the FrameBar, the soundbar to accompany Samsung’s The Frame TV. This year, they introduced their new GrameBar 44UX and Powered FrameBar, perfect for large-scale screens. They also make the studio Frame for Sony’s Bravia XR televisions in an array of designer finishes. They also revealed a new wall-mounted sconce, created in partnership with Mera Sound Sconce, that offers a 33UX audio platform and diffused LED lighting for both sound and enhanced glow.

Harman showed a variety of new audio products, including a new L42ms integrated music system. Their JBL L42ms gives the sound quality of a JBL loudspeaker in a compact cabinet with a curved grill, tapered edges, and a finish of either black or natural walnut real-wood veneer. They also introduced their new White Aspen design finish options which give clients speakers that suit the clean white aesthetic of current design trends. And there’s more: their new Revel PerformaBe Architectural Series makes it possible for the PerformaBe floorstanding, bookshelf, and new architectural speakers to integrate together into one system. These new speakers have three in-wall and one ceiling model.

Origin Acoustics is another of our favorite design-centric audio manufacturers – and this year, they’ve introduced a new product that completely eliminates any conflicts in home design: a completely invisible speaker. Their new Boundaryless Listening Experience with Natural Depth Sound (BLENDS) invisible speakers look just like regular tiles, or they can be covered with a thin layer of paint or wallpaper. Their upgraded line of Ambisonic Bollard landscape speakers use ribbon tweeter technology, offer three sizes of speakers, and a new hexagon design for outdoor landscaping.
