Tips From The Top

  • The New Solution to the TV Black Hole

TV is great. TV is wonderful. We love our TVs with their amazingly clear images, sharp contrasts, and colors so vivid they’re more real than reality.

But we’re not watching TV all the time.

And when we’re not, there’s an enormous black hole dominating the living room. Or bedroom. Or kitchen. Or whatever room we have a TV in – which, for many of us, are the significant rooms in our homes.

Fortunately, television manufacturers are listening. We’ve recently featured Samsung’s The Frame, which transforms your TV screen into a work of art when it’s not in use. And Media Decor’s Moving Art Screens, which cover a black TV screen with hand-selected artwork specifically for your entertainment space.

This spring, we’ll see the next evolution in creative solutions for the blank TV. LG Electronics has announced the release of its revolutionary roll-up television.

That’s right – a 4K OLED TV that rolls up whenever you want it to vanish.

LG revealed its rollable TV prototype a year ago. The official 4K OLED scheduled for release in March is said to be similar to the prototype, but with a refined base station and a100-watt Dolby Atmos speaker. The TV descends down into its base whenever it’s not in use. Pushing a button will cause it to rise again. “Line Mode” allows the TV to descend with about a quarter of the screen still revealed, permitting the user to operate the on-screen audio controls and other available smart home devices. You can also listen to built-in sounds of rain or a smoldering fire. Even when the TV is rolled up, you can play music on the Atmos speaker system. Ports are located at the back of the base, said to equal the high quality of all premium LG TVs.

According to LG, its new rollable OLED TV maintains the ultra-fine picture quality of its top-of-the-line TVs. The perfect blacks, HDR color, brightness, contrast, and other features are all hallmarks of this latest innovation. Google Assistant integration in LG’s webOS software is part of the package, and support for Alexa voice controls will be added this year. LG will also be adding Apple’s AirPlay 2.
