Tips From The Top

  • Your Home Theater Big Screen Dreams

Do you want a large screen and a projector for your home theater, but aren’t looking forward to entire room re-design in order to make it happen?

    You’re in luck.

It’s called the LG Cinebeam AI ThinQ Ultra Short Throw projector. This innovative projector sits 7.2 inches from the wall and projects a 120-inch image. Say goodbye to wall or ceiling mounts, or a screen that has to be placed in the center of the room, or a complete home theater redesign in order to get the amazing theater image you’re looking for. The groundbreaking projector gives you a ultimate flexibility and options in room design, without having to sacrifice your existing home theater to get the quality you want.

“There are a lot of rooms where people may not want to have a flat panel display on the wall,” says Tim Alessi, head of home entertainment product marketing at LG Electronics, as quoted in a recent article on CEPro’s website. “Keep in mind that a flat panel display pretty much tops out at 77 or 88 inches. If you want to go larger… says 100 or 120 inches… now you are in the realm of projectors.”

Alessi describes how traditional front projectors require a total room redesign, requiring homeowners to re-think lighting control, hang the projector from the wall or ceiling, or place it in the middle of a room. “Those options are not very convenient,” he says.

But the Ultra Short Throw projector can be placed only 7.2 inches from the wall and achieve a 120-inch screen size. The new Cinebeam Ultra Short Throw projector uses a three-channel laser system, using laser as a light source and no longer employing a color wheel. (DLP-based projectors require a color wheel.) “The three-channel laser gives you a more accurate color reproduction, an expanded color gamut, and you don’t have the rainbow effect that some people see with DLP projectors,” says Alessi.

When placed a scant 7.2 inches from the wall, the new projector projects up to a 120-inch diagonal 4K image. Its 2,700 ANSI lumens distribute a clear, distinct picture, even in rooms with high ambient light. The laser projector is encased in an extremely minimalist design, and includes HDR10 high dynamic range capability, giving deep blacks in dark scenes and life-like bright highlights. It also offers IP Control with Savant, Control4, and Crestron.
