Tips From The Top

  • Security = Peace of Mind

Smart home security is a lot more than fancy doorbells, or stopping that burglar from breaking in the window and stealing the jewelry. And it’s even more important now while we’re all spending so much more time at home.

That’s right – smart home security is vital even when we’re home.

Think of it this way: You’re in the middle of a two-hour Zoom meeting in your home office. Somebody’s at your front door. Without even leaving your desk, you can use your phone’s app to see what’s happening at the front door. You can see if a delivery person just left a package on the front porch. Or if someone is standing there, you can communicate with them – you can even unlock the door from your phone to let that delivery person leave the package safely inside, or let the maintenance person in for repairs. And you can lock the door behind them.

During the same meeting (it’s a busy morning), your phone lets you know somebody just left out your back door. You can check the security camera to see your kids are taking a break from distance learning to play in the backyard, and you can use the intercom to let them know when they need to get back to the books, all without leaving your meeting.

And as always, smart home security is crucial when we’re away from home. While you’re relaxing in warmer weather, a total home security system can call you if there’s anything amiss. A burst pipe under the sink? You can unlock the door to let a neighbor check on your home, and later give the plumber a one-time code to unlock the door when they come to fix it. Your system will also notify you if the thermostat goes lower or higher than its setting, or if a smoke alarm is going off. If you don’t answer your phone? The system will notify the fire department. An automated lighting system like those offered by Savant or Lutron can turn the lights in your home on and off at various times throughout the evening, and vary every evening, to mimic real activity in the home. From anywhere, you can use the app to access security cameras to see what’s happening in real time at your home. And if something goes wrong with your network, we here at Jackson Hole A/V are monitoring the system and can make sure it’s back up and running quickly, ensuring the security of your home and your peace of mind.
