Tips From The Top

  • Premium quality home theater audio

The heart of summer may be the ideal time to install your ultimate home theater. Starting the design and build now will ensure your project is ready for the colder, darker months when we all want to curl up in front of our favorite film in the comfort of our own home. Or, since we’re all spending so much time outdoors, we can envision how an outdoor home theater can offer even more opportunity to enjoy our living spaces – in areas we didn’t even imagine before.

Whether indoor or outdoor, audio is a key feature of the home theater.

For home theaters, we love Pro Audio Technology for its amazing quality and aesthetic.

Pro Audio Technology offers professional home audio products for homes. It has a long history of quality and innovation. It began in 2004 as Professional Home Cinema and quickly revolutionized residential surround sound with a range of professional-grade audio loudspeakers and DSP (digital signal processing) amplifiers. In 2010 it changed its name to Pro Audio Technology. Today, it serves as the top choice for movie and music industry professionals. Last year, the company’s owner, Paul Hales, founded sister-company Theory Audio Design (Theory) to make the audio technology available to residential and commercial locations at more attainable prices.

The company excels at spatial audio. You get to hear surround sound in three-dimensions, making an unbelievably realistic audio experience, no matter what your space limitations may be. In fact, its new S and SR Series speakers have utilized innovations to create the sound of commercial theaters in a residential space no matter what the space limitations are. It’s truly incredible to relax in your own home and hear large theater-quality film sound.

The S and SR Series use unique tweeters and DSP capabilities. They incorporate a 1.7-inch ultra-purity high-frequency compression driver mounted on an elliptical wide-dispersion horn. The S-12sm and SR-12ai were designed to be placed behind acoustically transparent projections screens. Both use 12-inch 1,400 watt, long-throw woofers with 4-inch voice coils. The SR-12ai uses a 7-inch enclosure so we can install it in tight spaces. It uses a slim enclosure, but uses a pair of 12-inch long-throw woofers for larger system designs. We combine the S and SR Series with DSP Loudspeaker Controllers so that we can custom-tailor frequency response, dynamics, and time alignment for your specific home theater.

Pro Audio Technology also excels at subwoofer technology. Not long ago, you could get away with a single subwoofer. These days, with multichannel audio systems, multiple subwoofers are much more frequent. They allow us to balance low frequencies in home theaters, mitigate standing wave modes for smoother bass. We also arrange subwoofers throughout the room to cancel out some modes and smooth low-frequent playback.

What’s the overall take away? Multiple subwoofers create more complex, layered audio for peak performance cinema quality sound.
