Tips From The Top

  • Hot trends: Multiroom Audio/Video

Remember when you had one stereo in your living room and had to turn it up to 11 to hear it in the bedroom?

    Those days are long gone.

Today, smart technology means your home can have a coordinated Audio/Video in many rooms throughout your home. Multiroom A/V is basically a connected network of devices – TVs, speakers, amps, soundbars – so that you can play music or visual tech from a single device like your tablet or smartphone. Everything is connected wirelessly, and in most cases, you can control it from anywhere.

Each room can be set to play the same music, play the same video, or each room can have its own A/V going, all at the same time. As the homeowner, you set the tone.

The popularity of multiroom A/V projects is quickly rising. According to the 2021 CE Pro Multiroom AV Deep Dive Study, among custom integrators like Jackson Hole A/V, nearly half of all projects (44%) over the past 12 months include some form of multiroom signal distribution.

Many home owners included an outdoor zone in these projects, too, which CE Pro attributes to the pandemic. The survey found that almost half (49%) of all the multizone projects included an outdoor audio zone last year, and 27% included an outdoor video zone. Nearly half (43%) included a home theater zone. Home theater was another area that spiked during the pandemic.

The study found that the typical multiroom A/V system installed had four zones of audio (with eight loudspeakers) and three zones of video (with three TV displays).

Besides the immediate gratification of being able to listen to amazing audio in your entire home, there are some important long-term benefits to multiroom A/V. Because it’s wireless, it can be installed anywhere on the property, inside and out. It’s modular – which means it’s not all or nothing; you can add or change over time, as your family’s needs and preferences change. And it’s flexible. Sure, you can play your favorite album all throughout your home, but maybe you only want that music in a few certain rooms or a floor of your home. You specify zones for the album to play, while other people are free to listen to other audio.

And you can still turn it up to 11.
