Tips From The Top

  • Four trends to make your home and work life better

We’re grateful that at the end of a tumultuous, uncertain year, we can continue to provide our clients with the most innovative technologies to make their home and work lives better.

As integrators, we’re always paying attention to trends for our clients. A recent article on DesignWELL365 points out four intriguing trends that we’re seeing, too – and we’re excited to bring our clients the cutting-edge smart technology that makes their home and work lives safer, more comfortable, and easier.

According to the recent trends cited in the article, health, safety, and sustainability remain the top priorities of smart building spaces.

At the top of the list is the popularity of connected technologies. Not surprising; our clients love the ease and comfort of connected security, climate, entertainment, and lighting. With the more time we spend at home, the more roles our homes take. Connected smart technology brings it all together in a way that makes daily life – whether it’s work, school, education, fitness, or recreation – that much more comfortable and enjoyable.

Smart cameras help our clients keep an eye on their entire homes. Even if they’re spending hours in their home office, they can monitor the front door for arriving packages or note that the kids have finished their schoolwork and are heading outside. Preset scenes via the Savant home platform allow clients to program lighting, sound, and temperature in various parts of their homes to come on and off at scheduled times. With Savant and Lutron, human-centric lighting and automated shading help our clients maintain good health.

And speaking of health, “Well-tech” is the next hot trend to watch, as it’s reshaping multiple ecosystems. Well-tech includes smart holistic wellness technology such as circadian lighting, advanced air monitoring and filtration, and more.

“Well-tech is one of the fastest growing technology trends in the residential market, and integrators are the best equipped to implement these products into the home,” said CEDIA senior director strategic partnerships, Ian Bryant, in the article.

Giles Sutton, CEDIA interim CEO, even calls these technology solutions “truly lifechanging… and they are no longer reserved for early adopters or the ultra-wealthy.”

Better health also incorporates more time spent outdoors – and homeowners are asking for outdoor entertainment spaces with advanced smart lighting and sound to build the ultimate outdoor recreation spaces at their homes. This leads to the number three trend for us as integrators: the growing need for remote monitoring and management. With this tool, we offer our clients the best possible service from installation to ongoing monitoring of their smart technology. There are many issues we can monitor and problems we can solve offsite, saving our clients the worry of having to monitor their own systems or having a technician interrupt their home lives to remedy a problem.

These days, it’s more important than ever to minimize interruptions to our clients’ home lives, especially as many more people are continuing to work from home. The ease and efficiency of smart technology in the home is increasingly important for our clients’ work, aligning with the fourth trend that technology is at the center of the evolving workplace. Dependable audio/video technology, plus the broadband to support it, are vital for our clients as they connect to their work remotely. We understand how important it is for our clients to feel connected and productive while working from any location, and we make sure the smart tech we install makes their work lives that much more productive and comfortable, from anywhere.
