Okay, okay – you might be asking, what exactly is masking? And why do I want it?

Masking is the technique used in professional and private cinemas to adjust the aspect ratio of the image projected on the screen. Basically, it provides a consistent, top-shelf image for you – the viewer – no matter the aspect ratio of the film being shown.

So why not just have those black bars at the top and bottom of your screen and call it a day? For one thing, those black bars are often not really black, and they are usually the largest “black” projected, which means that you can really tell they’re there. And the whole point is that they’re not there. Masking truly blacks them out so that you are not seeing them at all. And if you’ve got a top-shelf projector, the image is absolutely perfect and pristine. There is nothing to distract you visually from what’s happening in the image.

And did we mention the sound? It transfers directly through that perfect, pristine image.

It uses the DT proprietary technology Mask Position Logic (MPL) based control, which calculates the exact location for the masks to be positioned. It creates any requested aspect ratio in the supported range. With MPL, you no longer need to set mask presets.
