Why You Want an Integrator on Your Crew
The need for stable, dependable power is an increasing need among luxury home owners. In this series, we look at how integrators can help build a strong foundation of power to support smart home technology at all times, in all conditions.
It’s a problem we’ve seen since we started Jackson Hole A/V—clients come to us after their dream home has been built or remodeled. They’re ready to design the private home cinema, or a whole home platform like Savant, or they want integrated systems for sound, lighting, or security. The challenge is that often, the new construction isn’t able to support their dream visions. There are two options. One is to scale back from what they really want. Or two, they have to re-build what’s just been built. It’s a waste of time, money, and energy that could all be avoided by bringing us into their build team from their very start.
When clients come to us before breaking ground, we can work with their designers, architects, and contractors to make sure the infrastructure supports the smart home technology our clients want—both now, and long into the future.
It’s even more critical these days. Power-related challenges are one of the biggest problems in system stability. It’s not about the control platform, or the equipment, or the individual device. It’s the lack of infrastructure to support the systems. The quality of power, design of circuits, and stability of voltage are the key factors to ensure the home’s foundation can support the systems that make home life that much more comfortable and secure.
The consequences of insufficient electrical planning are many. Not only does a lack of power limit a client’s dream home theater or home lighting or sound, it can also prevent future technological developments. Insufficient electrical planning can lead to major problems when the whole home electrical use is higher for some reason, like a special event or an emergency. When the higher-load needs ramp up, nobody wants to have the power go down right in the middle of everything.
And it’s not just big events and the draw on power that can lead to problems. “Voltage sags” can lead to major headaches when a home relies on a network for security, lighting, and climate control. It doesn’t take much in a power brown-out to cause a system reboot or other problems with security.
That’s why sufficient planning for power needs and the infrastructure to support it is critical from the very start. We ensure our clients’ homes will have the power to support all their systems in a stable, efficient, and continuous way. We also monitor and maintain the power systems over the long run, providing data to our clients to help them make the best decisions regarding their home’s power.
