BEHIND THE CLOSET DOOR: EQUIPMENT RACKS & STRUCTURED WIRING FROM OUR PROJECTS
Jackson Hole AV designs and installs enterprise-grade home networks and whole-property Wi-Fi in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Everything in a modern home rides on the network — streaming, video calls, the Savant, Control4, or Josh.ai system that runs the house, cameras, lighting, and shades. We build wired and wireless infrastructure that holds up when the whole family — and all their devices — lands for the holidays.
Enterprise equipment, not a store-bought router. We build on Access Networks, Araknis, and Netgear — enterprise routing and switching, with wireless access points placed for whole-property coverage — and house it in Middle Atlantic racks, with rack craftsmanship you'll be proud to open the closet on. An in-house network technician is part of our team, so the network is designed, installed, and supported by the same people who build the rest of the system.
Wired first, wireless everywhere. The most reliable connection is still a wire. For new construction and major renovations we install the backbone while the walls are open: structured wiring terminated and labeled, network infrastructure sized for the whole family, equipment rooms planned for cooling, power, and service access, and conduit paths for the technology that doesn't exist yet. Wi-Fi then covers everything that moves — phones, tablets, and laptops — across the property.
Certified before the drywall goes up. Every cable run we install is tested and certified with high-end Fluke network testers before the walls are closed, and the results are documented and kept for the client. Certification tells us more than whether a cable works — it verifies the speed each run is actually good for: 1 Gb, 5 Gb, or 10 Gb. That matters as internet service gets faster, and especially for video switching: Savant's video distribution requires 10 Gb-certified connections, so we know before the walls close that every video run will carry it. It's proof that the wiring behind the walls performs the way it should — and it protects the homeowner, the builder, and us if a cable is ever damaged by other work after the drywall goes up.
Designed and documented. On projects with an architect, the network is designed into the drawing set like any other system — PoE, AV VLANs, switching, Wi-Fi, rack layout, and a testing plan — so power, conduit, and equipment locations are coordinated before construction. See how we work with architects and builders.
Secured from the start. Every connected device in a smart home is a possible window in, so security is part of the design, not an afterthought: a firewalled network, secured Wi-Fi with strong credentials, and equipment kept current. We prioritize the security and privacy of our clients and their homes in every system we install, monitor, and safeguard.
Watched from anywhere. Many Jackson Hole homes sit empty for weeks at a time. We back our networks with remote monitoring and management, which lets us see and resolve many issues without entering the home — often before you ever notice them. When something needs hands, it's our local team that shows up, with 24/7 support for our clients, holidays included.
Homes and offices. The same approach carries into commercial spaces — we've outfitted conference rooms and gathering spaces for a landmark Jackson law office with commercial networking and support. And finished homes aren't out of options: an honest site visit tells us exactly what's possible.
What makes a network "enterprise-grade"? Enterprise routing and switching, wireless access points placed for coverage across the whole property, a wired backbone for everything that doesn't move, and remote monitoring and management — built on Access Networks, Araknis, and Netgear equipment rather than a single consumer router.
Why does the network matter so much in a smart home? Because everything rides on it — streaming, video calls, the automation system, cameras, lighting, and shades. A network that can't keep up makes every other system feel unreliable, which is why we treat it as the system under every system.
Should I wire the house or rely on Wi-Fi? Both. A wire is still the most reliable connection, so TVs, access points, and equipment get a hardline where possible, and Wi-Fi covers phones, tablets, and laptops everywhere else. In new construction, we install the structured wiring and conduit while the walls are open.
How do we know the wiring in the walls actually works? We test and certify every cable run with high-end Fluke network testers before the drywall goes up — verifying whether each run is good for 1 Gb, 5 Gb, or 10 Gb, which matters for faster internet and for video switching (Savant's video distribution requires 10 Gb-certified connections) — and keep the documented results for the client. If a cable is later damaged by other work, the certification shows it passed when it was installed — protection for the homeowner, the builder, and us.
Why can two network quotes be so far apart? Often it comes down to switch speed. 10 GbE network switches cost significantly more than 1 GbE switches, so a quote built on 1 GbE equipment will usually look much cheaper — but it can't carry 10 Gb video distribution, and it leaves less headroom as internet service gets faster. When you compare quotes, ask what speed the switches are and what speed the cabling was certified to. We'll always tell you exactly what we're specifying and why.
Can you improve Wi-Fi in a home that's already built? Yes — finished homes still have real options. A site visit tells us honestly what's possible and where the investment will make the biggest difference.
How do you keep a home network secure? Security is designed in from the start: a firewalled network, secured Wi-Fi with strong credentials, equipment kept current, and remote monitoring. We prioritize the security and privacy of our clients and their homes in every system we install.
Do you monitor the network when we're away? Yes. Remote monitoring and management let us see and resolve many issues without a trip to the house — often before you notice — and our local team provides 24/7 support for our clients, holidays included.
Do you network offices and commercial spaces? Yes. We provide commercial networking and support, including conference rooms and gathering spaces for a landmark Jackson law office.
